WhatsApp for Android could soon allow users to deactivate the camera before video calls
WhatsApp would work on a new feature that could improve the options available for Android users to manage video calls.
According to recent results, the instant messaging service tests a functionality that allows users to deactivate the camera of their device before responding to a video call. This feature was discovered by an apk disassembly of a beta version of the application, in particular version 2.25.7.3, as indicated by Android Authority.

Although this feature is not yet accessible to the general public, the publication has been able to activate it by modifications to the application. It is designed to provide an option entitled “Disable your video” when a video call is received, allowing users to respond in voice mode only.
If the camera is already deactivated, the application can present an additional prompt, “accept without video” for confirmation. In addition, users would have the possibility of activating their camera during the call using the “Light your video” option.
Currently, WhatsApp does not offer similar capacity; Users can only deactivate their video flow after having answered a call. This upcoming feature should be aligned with the features found in platforms like Google Meet and the Microsoft teams.

Previous reports indicate that WhatsApp also develops various new features for Android users, including a UPI Lite option to rationalize payment processes by authorizing transactions without the need for a PIN code. In addition, a new interface for Meta Ai, the conversational ai chatbot of WhatsApp, could soon be presented.
