The functionality is currently in the beta phase for Android version 2.25.3.15, indicating that the meta-ownership application wishes to expand its financial services within the country.
According to the report, this new feature should facilitate direct payments of invoices via the WhatsApp application. The types of invoices that can be supported include electricity bills, mobile prepaid recharges, GPL gas payments, water bills, fixed bills and rent payments.
Although the invoice payment function is still under development, an empty activity for it has already been integrated into the aforementioned beta version of WhatsApp.
Although a specific release chronology has not been disclosed, it is expected that beta in India will have access to this functionality before its deployment on the stable update channel. The publication also notes that the platform may encounter regulatory or logistical obstacles before the service can be launched in India.
Currently, WhatsApp allows users to make UPI payments to contacts and businesses. In addition, this new feature appeared following the decision of the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) to delete the user integration limit for WhatsApp Pay, allowing him to compete more effectively with payment platforms established such as Phonepe and Google Pay.
