Mickey 17 review: Big Kild Finger to strong men obsessed with space

The tip of the well -deserved hat that director Bong Joon Ho has produced Oscars in 2020 with Parasite Fully assured that the studios would fight dental to support his next cinematographic project. It was always going to be difficult for Bong to go beyond what he did with Parasite – a formal masterpiece that spoke at The The meticulous From its creative process – but it was difficult not to hope for its follow -up after such a powerful story.

However Mickey 17 Good Narrative Bongs and stylistic Bong has become known, the film is more trembling than a large part of its previous work. There is intentional (but not always effective) perspiration to some of the main performances of black comedy which eliminate part of the bite from its social commentary. But given the caricatural dislocated political climate that we all live at the moment, Mickey 17 It also looks like a film that meets the moment and that articulates what is in many of our minds.

Adapted from Edward Ashton’s novel in 2022 Mickey 7,, Mickey 17 Tells the story of Mickey Barnes (Robert Pattinson), a nice simple man whose worried commercial transactions force him to present himself for his life. When Mickey and his best Bud Timo (Steven Yeun) plan to open a bakery falls flat, they know that the sadistic loan shark that they must not think twice to assassinate them. And in Mickey 17The vision of the future, the earth has become so ravaged by catastrophic weather conditions that there are not many places to hide.

The climate is so unstable that many people came on the plane of the Disgrace Earth of the politician (Mark Ruffalo) to leave the earth in order to colonize other worlds. Unlike Timo, Mickey has no skills or specialized connections that would make him an ideal candidate for Marshall’s trip. But his desire to register to become a consumable – a subordinate worker who is cloned every time they die at work – without reading the small characters is everything you need to ensure a place and, apparently, a path to security.

Although there is a dreary and almost apocalyptic gravity for the world around Mickey when we meet him for the first time, Pattinson leans in a charming clumsy with his performance which clearly indicates how the comic bong intends to Mickey 17 play. Mickey, whose crumbler affect gives Pattinson Riffing a little on the aspects of Eddie Brock by Tom Hardyis not entirely a Pollyanna without cut. Once on board the ship, Mickey may feel that there is something very absent about the woman obsessed with raw meat by Marshall, Ylfa (Toni Collette) and her adorable Preston Yes-Man (Daniel Henshall). Mickey knows that Marshall – who reads like a mixture of Donald Trump,, Elon MuskAnd Bryan Johnson – sees expenses that are sub-human beings whose only value is in the work they can do to achieve their objectives.

In the case of Mickey, this workforce goes from the execution of subordinate tasks within the ship to be sent outside and ordered to remove its costume and to give itself intoxication to deadly radiation. There is also a good amount of tests and deadly errors once the ship reaches the planet Nilfheim and Marshall scientists must use Mickey to develop a vaccine to protect everyone from extraterrestrial viruses. But whatever the number of times Mickey is responsible for jobs that kill him, his 3D printed clones always wake up knowing that the security officer Nasha Barridge (Naomi Ackie) will be there with a smile on his face and plans that they sneak up for unauthorized sexual release.

Mickey 17The horn and its moments of Gore both emphasize that, at a level, it is a film on people who treat the real challenges that would come with the exploration of deep space. The dizzying equipment of the romantic scenes of Ackie and Pattinson explains how the hope that their relationship gives them is a rare and precious feeling.

Even if they are played to laugh, each of the horrible dead from Mickey works fundamental science. But whenever Mickey is resurrected by a massive 3D printer that often immerses him on the ground, you can feel the sense of Bong’s humor shine.

It is also clear that Bong intended to Mickey 17 To let you laugh in moments where he focuses on Marshall the marking for his fans carrying fans or pontificing to his workers while Ylfa turns around him like a disturbed hummingbird. Although collet’s performance is deliciously batshit – Ylfa always appears with a mixer trying to force people to try strange sauces that it has concocted – the Marshall of Ruffalo becomes more and more exhausting to look as the film progresses. This energy is clearly intentional to a certain extent and understandable due to the definition of Marshall by its propensity for self-agrandiating and the crisis of anger.

Especially when Ruffalo spits lines through large prosthetic teeth spiritually (but not aesthetically) evocative of the Tilda Swinton whole wore in Bong’s SnowpiecerMarshall smells like Mickey 17The clearest articulation of how selfish billionaires who consider themselves saviors tend to be assholes that should not trust. But Ruffalo goes so tall with his performance that he often has the impression of acting in a different and more absurd film.

Things are starting to feel even more zanative when the 17th Mickey seems to die on the surface of Nilfheim, to find his way to the cold, but very lively ship. The way in which the film – which was Green was Green before the publication of Ashton’s novel, and based on the first drafts of the book – is accompanied by the way it does not freeze to death is one of the first signs of the way in which history finances. But the film needs this beat to introduce Mickey 18 and the disorders that follow when two existing expenses exist at the same time.

While Mickey 17 Using its two mickeys to explore fun ideas, but not all those, which cloning technology would mean for society, the film begins to lose its place while it pulls the pair in uneven intrigue. The duo has their own existential luggage to manage when they try to understand why 18 is so much more aggressive and responsive than its twin. But they also have personal scores to settle with Timo. Then there is the question of working through an emotional patch with Nasha and to make sure that other people on the ship do not realize that there are two.

Bong does a useful job to keep all of these plates that turn, but they do not balance it quite in a way that makes Mickey 17 Feel like your best outing. But this global disorder is also part of what makes the film – as well as its central responsibility message, workers must value themselves – stand out as a perfectly timed story at this current moment, although it takes place in the future from afar.

Mickey 17 Also put in Holliday Grainger, Anamaria Vartolomei, Cameron Britton, Patsy Ferran, Angus Imrie, Steve Park and Tim Key. The film is now in theaters.
