Mark Cuban says that AI is “never the answer” is a “tool”
Speaking at the SXSW conference In Austin, Texas, the technological investor and entrepreneur Mark Cuban shared his reflections on how AI technology can help small businesses outperform their competition. In short, he told the crowd that AI was not the answer, in itself, but is supposed to serve as help that can help entrepreneurs by facilitating the growth of their activities and answering questions along the way.
Cuban suggested that today’s entrepreneurs should spend “every minute awake to discover AI”, because of its potential.
“There are so many changes quickly,” he said, adding that it is different for established IA integration companies compared to new businesses.
“It’s so much easier to start,” said Cuban. “It went from – on the way, during the day – $ 5,000 for a PC … if you just have a laptop and an internet connection, you can start anything,” he continued. “Now you have a mentor – that you used perplexity, anthropic claude, chatgpt, gemini – that doesn’t matter. You have experts.
Although he admitted that there were problems with the AIS who make mistakes and hallucines, Cuban noted that human mentors and experts “do not always do things either.”
Despite the problems, AI “experts” can help you understand what you do not know and can help in other areas of business management, such as research, emails and sales calls.
However, Cuban warned the crowd of not counting too much on AI.
“AI is never the answer. AI is the tool. Whatever the skills you have, you can use AI to amplify them, “he said.
This is particularly true in the creative fields, where AI moves to fields like art and writing.
“Many creatives think, well, the AI will write all the scripts,” noted Cuban. “AI does not know a good story of a bad story. You must be creative. The AI can make the video – believe me, I can create videos generated by AI. They will suck, “he said.
“Whatever the skills you have, AI can amplify them. But not using it means that someone else will amplify their skills – and it could make a difference between getting ahead or not, “said Cuban.
