Google replaces Google Assistant with Gemini

Google will replace Google Assistant on Android phones with Gemini later this year, the company announced on Friday.

Google said in a blog article that it will upgrade more users from Google Assistant to Gemini “in the coming months”. Later this year, the assistant will no longer be accessible on most mobile devices or available in application stores.

“In addition, we will upgrade the tablets, cars and devices that connect to your phone, such as headphones and watches, Gemini,” added the company. “We also provide a new experience, powered by Gemini, to home apparatus such as speakers, screens and televisions.”

Google said it will share more details with users in the coming months, and that the assistant will continue to operate on the aforementioned devices.

Google notes that he worked to improve the user experience of Gemini before the assistant’s end, especially for users who rely on various assistant functions. For example, Google has added several highly requested features to Gemini on Android devices, such as the possibility of playing music, care for timer and an option to take measurements directly from the locking screen of a user.

The move to Drop Assistant in favor of Gemini is not surprising, especially if Google launched its Pixel 9 smartphone line with Gemini as default virtual assistant. Google notes that Gemini has more advanced capacities than the assistant (in theory, at least), and provides new ways to obtain help and information on subjects via tools like Live Gemini And Deep research.
