Bluesky will soon allow you to limit responses to “subscribers only”
The Bluesky social network will soon give its users more control over who can respond to their messages. Confirmed by the developer of Bluesky Paul Frazee, Bluesky will add a new “Followers Only” parameter that users can configure to limit the answers. In addition, he says, Bluesky will create a way for users to define their default response settings. This means that if you always want to limit your answers to subscribers, for example, you can.
These changes will help to differentiate further the application of its greatest competitors, the sons of Elon Musk and Meta.
On X, users can choose between a set of response controls, including “everyone”, “the accounts you follow”, “audited accounts” and “only the accounts you mention”. You can also publish on specific communities of which you are a member, which also limits their reach.
Meanwhile, on threads, users can choose between “anyone”, “the profiles you follow” and “mentioned only”.
Until now, Bluesky has adopted a similar set of parameters to its competitors, allowing users to limit responses to their publications to “Everyone”, “Person”, “said users” and “user follow -up”. (In addition, you can combine these last two options with all the lists you have created.)
Offering a “Followers Only” response option is a new turn, and that which, according to Frazee, could help make the “viral less intense” while reducing “the collapse of the context”. This refers to the moment when a viral post extends its scope far beyond the original target audience, which can then misunderstand the position or be confused.
The developer notes that change will only limit who can respond to a position – this has no impact that can see it.
An “Followers Only” response option has been suggested by Bluesky users for some time. Frazee himself discussed a followers option with a return user December 2023.
The underlying protocol at Powers Bluesky will also be upgraded to support the lower functionality on the road.
