Avride launches sidewalk delivery boots on Uber Eats in Jersey City
Uber eats that Jersey City customers can now have their orders delivered by one of the Avride autonomous sidewalks delivery.
The launch, which started this week in New Jersey this week, is Uber’s last foray into autonomous vehicles and represents an expanding relationship with Avride. The Hail and Delivery Giant deploys AV on its application in 11 cities with six partners, including CartCoco, A soleAnd Serve robotics; He also prepares to introduce Waymo Robotaxis to its application in Austin and Atlanta at the beginning of 2025.
Uber initially announced its Partnership with Avride To bring both the company’s delivery robots and its autonomous vehicles to the Uber platform in October 2024. Since then, the two have launched robotic deliveries Austin And Dallas.
They also plan to launch Avride’s autonomous cars in Dallas this year, which would be the first deployment of Avride Robotaxi in the United States Avride is a spin-out of Yandex, the Russian technology company which spent its companies last year Following the invasion of Ukraine in 2022 by Russia. The startup has also recently announced a link with Grubhub to bring bots on university campuses in the United States, starting with 100 robots at Ohio State University.
Jersey City is an interesting choice, but difficult. Especially in February, when a mixture of snow, rain and freezing temperatures could make it difficult for small robots to make their deliveries.
Avride says that its robots can work in the snow and in “moderate precipitation”. A company spokesperson has also noted that if the bots can travel up to 5 miles per hour with a beach of 31 miles on a single load, their optimal delivery range is one to two miles.
Avride will operate the bots in a square mile in downtown Jersey City, from Hamilton Park to the historic city center at the seafront, with plans to develop in the future. Avride refused to say how many robots he would put in the streets of Jersey City at the launch.
A handful of restaurants will participate, notably Michelin, classified Jiangan, Rumi Turkish Grill and Gulp. Customers who order the Uber Eats application can choose between a traditional letter or an Avride robot deliver their meals.

They can also follow the location of the bot via the Uber Eats application. Customers will receive a notification upon arrival of the bot, and they will be able to use the application to unlock it and enter their food.
During the report on the results of the fourth quarter of Uber last week last week, CEO Dara Khosrowshahi noted This 2024 was a turning point for AV industry, which it considers represents an opportunity for billions of dollars in the United States only.
Despite this optimism, he warned that the marketing AV would take some time due to a certain number of factors, including high costs for holding vehicles with combinations of sensors, a fragmented regulatory environment, seasonal fluctuations of the request and the need to reach “superhuman” security levels.
