Apple Airpods can soon get a live translation function, the report indicates
The future is now, it seems, and Apple is right to the thickness. Cupertino would work on a new feature for AirPods that would allow people to translate live and in person conversations.
The news come via Bloomberg Mark Gurman. According to Gurman, Apple intends to publish the new functionality “as part of an Airpod software upgrade later this year”. He also notes that the functionality will probably coincide with the release of iOS 19.
It would work mainly via an application on the iPhone. In the example Gurman gave, if an English speaker spoke to a Spanish speaker, the phone would listen to the Spanish speaker, translated and sent the translation to the AirPods. The phone would then listen to the response of the English speaker, translated it and play it aloud on the iPhone.

This is similar to the way other companies do. Google pixels used a Similar method for several years nowand the Galaxy Buds range from Samsung received the functionality in 2024. The two competitors also use the phone translation method and play it on headphones.
If Apple obtains the translation functionality and the release of iOS 19, it would be the last of a long line of rumors that iOS 19 will be a major version. Cupertino would work on the revision of iOS, iPados and even macOS with new icons and menus, by modifying the way the applications behave, and even more. Gurman wrote that iOS 19 would be “one of the most dramatic software revisions in business history”.
While the translation function would only be in the software, Apple should also work on a radical New pair of airpods that houses cameras. The airpods loaded with camera will be launched in 2027 if the rumors were true. Just like Meta’s Ray-Ban Smart LunesThe camera would be mainly to look at the user’s environment instead of photography. The AirPods would take the visual data and use it with Apple Intelligence to process what is going on around the user and give them better information.
We will probably learn more about iOS 19 and its different characteristics, including the AirPods translation function, to Apple’s WWDC event this summer. We may have to wait a little longer to find out more about the airpods equipped with the camera.
