Amazon to move the Alexa vocal recordings to the cloud, ending local treatment

Amazon would have informed Echo users that the local processing of vocal requests sent to Alexa will soon be interrupted. According to the report, the Seattle -based electronic commerce company intends to stop the treatment of voice records on voice devices for ECHO devices from March 28.

This change would comply with the introduction of the new version of artificial intelligence (AI) of the virtual assistant, known as Alexa +, which will work entirely in the cloud. Users who maintain their devices in local processing mode can lose access to Alexa’s ID functionality.

The processing capacity of voice requests on devices was submitted by the company in 2021, allowing users who preferred not to share their conversations with Amazon to adopt a more concerned about confidentiality. However, it seems that the company now reverses this functionality.

An ARS Technica report indicates that Amazon has sent e-mails to echo users, informing them that the local processing of Alexa’s requests will no longer be available. These notifications would not have been directed only to users who had activated the option “do not send voice records” to their devices.

E-mail said: “While we continue to extend Alexa’s capacities with generating intermediary features that are based on Amazon’s secure cloud processing power, we decided to no longer take care of this functionality”, according to the publication.

The company should interrupt the local treatment support from March 28, probably in anticipation of the launch of the new Alexa + improved in AI-AI.

Users who do not deactivate this parameter may be unable to use the essential voice identification function, which personalizes the user experience by sharing information such as calendar events, reminders and music.
