The CEO by the pool says most companies should not build foundation models

The co-founder and CEO of Poolside, Jason Warner, has not chopped the words: he thinks that most companies seeking to build foundation models should rather focus on creating applications. The swimming pool is a software development platform powered by AI.

Warner told the public at Humanx AI conference In Las Vegas on Monday, he does not think that anyone who does not think that intelligence is the most important goods in the world – equally with electricity – should build a foundation model.

“If you are one of these people, if you want to take a side of the fence, you are a printing house for money unlike everything we have ever seen in the world,” said Warner. “Or if the other side of the fence, you change and fundamentally fold the arc of humanity in a way that we have not done before. And I think it’s true.

Warner added that his business is “literally” continuing to act via software. If someone considers fundamental models as more than one “pleasant to have” as a means of collecting money in venture capital, the company should simply build a packaging on an existing fundamental model, he added.

That said, however, Warner said he thought that companies that build foundation models cannot just have a foundation model as a product. Instead, this should be part of their product – especially since the landscape becomes more competitive.

“In my opinion, if I will build this type of business, I rely on the one hand, going after intelligence on Compute, I have to go after the most difficult environment,” said Warner. “You cannot make it simple on one side and hard on the other. It doesn’t really make sense, because if you are going to go for everything, opt for everything. “”

He added that this is why a pumpkin goes after difficult areas like defense and working with the government. But Warner said the company planned to launch a consumption application at a given time as well.

Poolside, based in San Francisco, was founded in 2023 by Warner, the former CTO of Github and VC at the Director General of Redpoint, and Eiso Kant, serial founder. The company has raised more than $ 620 million in venture capital funding and is currently estimated at $ 3 billion.
